High Desert Bagels is a wholesale bakery crafting artisan bagels using local flour and toppings. We are a family run bakery with a deep commitment to Earth, food security, and resilient local economies.

Living in a rural, high-desert community means that our food supply is precarious by nature. Much of the food in Southwest Colorado travels to us by truck, boat, or airplane, sometimes covering thousands of miles before reaching our tables. While these systems often feel invisible and reliable, they are in fact fragile. Recent disruptions in global shipping, the increasing threat of cyberattacks on major food corporations, and political instability all highlight how dependent we are on centralized, vulnerable supply chains.

We believe it has never been more urgent to invest in strengthening local food systems. By shortening supply chains and building direct relationships between farmers, millers, bakers, and consumers, we increase the resilience of our community. Instead of relying solely on anonymous national and global networks, we can talk directly to the people who grow and process our food, ensuring stability, transparency, and adaptability.

High Desert Bagels aims to provide a spoke in that wheel of resilience. By utilizing Colorado-grown grain and embedding those crops into daily staples, we reinforce local capacity and make our community less vulnerable to external shocks. This project is not only about bread—it is about building a secure and durable food system for the long term.

Grain is the foundation of community. By sourcing directly from local farmers and mills, we not only elevate flavor and quality but also strengthen regional grain networks. We partner with businesses in the Four Corners Region of SW Colorado.

We are a proud member of the Colorado Grain Chain, a membership based non-profit organization that seeks to grow and connect a vibrant community-centered grain economy in the state of Colorado.
